about

Mother of Thousand

This is the 10th album of Artvark Saxophone Quartet: new music inspired by the sound of Arvo Pärt and Aphex Twin.

In 2020 Artvark retreated into their self-build studio. Finding that one truffle never felt this urgent before. Together they developed new material in the studio, as opposed to each of them writing at home as a traditional composer writing for a saxophone quartet. This proved to be a very exiting process, experimenting, finding new forms and sounds.

On this album you will hear original Adolphe Sax saxophones from the 1860’s, very rare slide saxophones from the 1920’s, a baritone recorded with a snare drum between microphone and saxophone, a quartet moving from left to right in between the speakers.

Mother of Thousand: a dream world of sound and space, hypnotic patterns and genuine blues. A soundtrack for the ultimate road trip.

All tracks composed and played by Artvark

Artvark is: Rolf Delfos alto sax, Bart Wirtz alto sax, Mete Erker tenor sax, Peter Broekhuizen baritone sax

Based in Rotterdam, Netherlands
